DESIGN BRIEF

Consideration was to be given to a diverse range of family groups as the owners progressed from a young family through to empty nesters, with the possibility of caring for an elderly family member in later years.

Outdoor entertaining was important.

Ensuite bathroom was to be a focal point of the project.

DESIGN ANALYSIS

The site had a wide northeast aspect to water. A narrow street frontage pushed the residence back towards the rear boundary.

The multiple lifestyles the design had to cater for meant that each space had to suffice for a number of different functions, so partitioning was to be kept to a minimum.

The master suite with adjoining ensuite required careful attention to satisfy the owners.

DESIGN OUTCOME

A series of roof planes forming skillions sloping towards each other was used to differentiate from most of the other skillion homes in the area. Careful tracking of flow paths & gutter / downpipe capacities was necessary to avoid creating maintenance issues as the house grew older.

Internally to theme a selection of stone and light bamboo flooring was used, and open spaces incorporated.

Filtered light can be included or excluded from the house as needed, creating the required living environment depending on the season.
